Business Development Representative (BDR) Recruitment

BDR recruitment for B2B employers in India: new-business prospecting, opportunity development and market expansion profiles, calibrated to your role.

Business Development Representatives open doors in markets, segments and accounts where the company does not yet have a strong presence. The role matters most when growth depends on new customers rather than existing ones. hroXai helps B2B employers in India hire BDRs who can prospect with purpose, develop early-stage opportunities and build relationships that a senior seller can later take forward.

The title means different things in different companies

Some employers use BDR and SDR as the same job. Others use BDR for a more senior, outbound-focused role with a defined territory or segment, longer sales cycles and sometimes a share of deal ownership. We do not assume the two are identical. Before searching, we agree with you which responsibilities sit with the BDR, which sit with the account executive, and what counts as a qualified opportunity.

Typical responsibilities

  • Identifying target segments, accounts and decision-makers in a new or under-penetrated market.
  • Planning and running outreach across several stakeholders in the same account.
  • Opening conversations, asking discovery questions and qualifying opportunities against agreed criteria.
  • Developing early opportunities with input from account executives or solution specialists.
  • Building relationships with influencers, partners and referral sources that support market entry.
  • Keeping account plans and CRM records current, and sharing what is learnt about the market.

What we assess

  • Commercial curiosity and the ability to learn a new market, buyer and product quickly.
  • Quality of outreach: relevance to the buyer, persistence without pressure, and clear writing.
  • Stakeholder mapping and the ability to reach more than one person in an account.
  • Qualification judgement and the discipline to stop pursuing weak opportunities.
  • Planning and self-management, because BDRs often work with limited supervision.
  • Comfort with ambiguity when the target market is not yet proven.
  • How the candidate has contributed to opportunities that progressed, described without overstating their share.

Hiring challenges

Job titles do not reliably show seniority, so an experienced BDR from one company may look very different from one at another. Employers sometimes want hunter-level judgement at a development-level hiring brief, which narrows the pool. Candidates who have sold into a different market also need a realistic view of how far their experience transfers. We use the calibration conversation to settle these trade-offs before outreach begins.

What a good BDR candidate looks like

A good candidate can describe how they entered an unfamiliar account or segment, who they approached first, and how they moved a conversation towards a defined next step. They respect process but adapt messages to the buyer, and they are open about what did not convert. Where your market is new, we also look for evidence of learning speed and of working well with colleagues across sales and marketing.

How hroXai recruits BDRs

  • Calibrate. We confirm the target market, qualification definition, handover rules, tools and how success will be reviewed.
  • Source. We approach candidates with relevant prospecting experience, and use sales talent mapping when a new market needs a wider view of the available talent.
  • Screen. We assess candidates against the agreed criteria through structured conversations and, where useful, a short prospecting exercise.
  • Shortlist. We present profiles with the evidence behind each recommendation so your interviewers can focus on fit.

Employer FAQ

How is a BDR different from an SDR?

It depends on your organisation. Commonly, a BDR focuses on new-business development in defined markets or accounts, while an SDR focuses on qualifying and booking meetings. We confirm your own definition during calibration.

Can you help us hire BDRs for a new market or territory?

Yes. For market entry we can discuss talent mapping to understand who is available and where, alongside the search itself.

Can you recruit a group of BDRs at once?

We can discuss a staged search for several hires. See sales team build-out for how we approach teams.

Do you provide outsourced business development?

No. hroXai recruits BDRs to join your company. We do not run outsourced prospecting or lead-generation services.

Planning to hire BDRs? Share the markets you want to enter and how you define a qualified opportunity, and we will outline the search.
